If you keep bees: this week
Reduce your entrances. Yellowjackets go after weak hives this time of year, and mice are looking for a warm spot. A small opening helps the bees guard the door.
Do a mite wash, not a sticky board. A sugar roll or alcohol wash gives a truer count in the fall. November's low brood makes it a good time to treat if numbers are high.
Work the hives on the dry days. Rain is likely Thursday and Sunday. Mon–Wed and Friday look warm and mostly sunny, so plan inspections then.
Leave the top vent open. Warm, damp nights mean moisture builds up inside. Let it out so you don't get mildew on the inner cover.
Pull queen excluders. The queen needs to move up with the cluster as it eats through the stores this winter.
Store empty supers right. Freeze drawn comb or store it light and airy so wax moths don't ruin it before spring.
